Agsafe is delivering bagMUSTER

What is bagMUSTER

bagMUSTER, a CropLife initiative in collaboration with the Australian Seed Federation, is dedicated to the responsible disposal of agricultural single-use plastic bags. Its mission is to reduce the impact of plastic bag waste on farms and advance sustainable practices in the agricultural sector.

The bagMUSTER program, run by Agsafe, will provide farmers and growers with a practical solution for disposing of single-use agricultural bags through a network of collection sites. This ensures proper collection and disposal of plastic bag waste, preventing soil pollution and safeguarding waterways.

Our commitment to recycling moves the Australian agricultural industry closer to a circular economy, significantly reducing environmental impact and preserving natural resources. Partnering with bagMUSTER means joining a movement dedicated to minimising the environmental footprint of agricultural plastic bag waste.

Become a foundational bagMUSTER partner to enhance your sustainability mission and lead the next wave of agricultural evolution.

The bagMUSTER commitment

Our goal is to deliver a nationally sustainable, industry-led product stewardship program that is an Australian Government Accredited Product Stewardship Scheme, ISO 9001 Accredited and in accordance with the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines (SPGs).

bagMUSTER aims to provide program statistics on plastic collection, recycling, other disposal options, and plastic resin outcomes to support your internal reporting requirements regarding end-of-product life collection and treatment. Further, bagMUSTER will provide certificates to growers delivering eligible bags to collection sites, assisting in meeting food safety QA requirements and Best Management Programs.

We also offer branding and marketing opportunities, allowing bagMUSTER partners to leverage their involvement and commitment to reducing plastic waste.

How does it work

The bagMUSTER program accepts any polypropylene (PP) agricultural input/product bags distributed through the retail and farm supply chain. This includes bags for granulated crop protection products, fertiliser, seed, grain (excluding silo bags), stock feed, and pet food, typically ranging from 25kg to over 1,200kg bulk bags.

bagMUSTER collections are funded by the agricultural retail sector. All fees paid to Agsafe for bagMUSTER will be used solely for the collection, recycling, management, promotion, infrastructure, and administration of bagMUSTER.

RETAILERS

Retail participants are asked to provide quarterly declarations in arears on the amount of eligible plastic bags sold. The required information includes retailer information (by state or store), total amount of plastic sold, type of plastic products sold (plastic type & size), recyclability labelling, and consumer engagement initiatives. Agsafe then invoices the participant fees based on the total number of bags sold.

We also offer a ‘fee for service’ collection option for pre-retail bags used in the production of fertiliser products, stock feed, and seed manufacture used upstream of the supply chain. Please get in contact to find out more.

Signing the retail participation agreement before 31 October 2024 will entitle retailers to foundation membership of bagMUSTER. The foundation partnership benefit enables removal of the annual bagMUSTER membership fee for the duration of the retail partnership agreement.

BRAND OWNERS

Signing the brand owner participation agreement before 1 October 2024 will entitle brand owners to foundational membership of bagMUSTER. Being a foundational member discounts the annual bagMUSTER membership fee by 25% for the duration of the partnership agreement.
